18/03/2009 15:42

- Travel rarely and for longer perioid at a time. Enjoy your valuable holiday.

- Fly less. If you have to fly, spend more time in the place you have chosen.

- Prefer travelling within your home country, especially when you have less vacation; travelling by train and by bus is less consuming.

- Travel, when it's out of season. It's reasonable to divide influence of tourism throughout the year.

- Prefer using environmentally friendly hotels/hostels and restaurants (organic, slow food, vegetable food).

- Bring toxic waste with you, when you return back home from your travel destination.

- Prefer using the same towels and sheets for as long perioid as possible at the hotels.

- Enjoy swimming in the sea; use less swimming pools.

- If you have to travel to the destinations, which are about to change into desert, take care of using local services.

- Don't buy souveniers made of endangered parts of animals and plants.

- Don't touch coral, stand on coral reef or collect them.

- Don't feed fish, throw waste food or garbage into the sea.

- If you travel to the alps, try to ski in the areas using natural snow, instead of using artificial snow.

- It's a good idea to visit the same destination many times. In that way you can get to know it deeper, and the destination is not

  something for once used.

- When you travel next time by ship, check that it doesn't throw waste water into sea (www.wwf.fi).

- The more stars classification a hotel has, the bigger egolocical footprint it has. Prefer visiting hotels with ** stars.

- Bring your own soap and shampoo with you. You reduce amount of waste.

- Save energy and especially water; many countries are suffering from lack of water (take quick showers!).

- Give feedback to a hotel and travel agency. If you are not satisfied change hotel. Also remember thank, when envrionmental things have been taken care of properly (TIPS!!!).
